General Overview

  • What time should I get there? Arrive at least an hour early, wave one 5k, 2 mile walk, and 5 mile runners need to pick up flags and make sure belts fit properly. Plus, youth will enjoy pre-run field activities.
  • How old do you need to be to run in the 5k? 5k participants can be any age but kids under the age of 13 need parental supervision. Youth who run in the Ĺ mile kids run may also participate in the 2 mile walk at no charge.
  • Can I bring strollers or pets? This is a cross country run and strollers may have a difficult time being pushed over the grass and sometime dirt trails. Pets are allowed in Deer Path Park with leash. You may run with your pet but we ask that you run around any of the obstacles. If your dogs resemble the zombie mutts from Resident Evil please donít bring them.
  • Should I form a team? Please do. Make sure when you register, that all of your group members submit your group name so we can keep you all organized. Group benefits are based on registration fees. So include any 5k runners, and 2 mile walkers. All of their registration fees will be added together. Group registrations over $100 will receive a yard sign promoting their team name along the course and have their team name announced at the start of the race.
  • What if it rains? The event is rain or shine. The grass and course can get a little muddy but nothing too serious. If the weather is predicted to be dangerous we will post a cancellation at www.hdap.org and reschedule a date.

FAQ Section

  • Can I get a refund? The Hot Chocolate 5K Trail Run is hosted by Hunterdon Drug Awareness. We are a drug and alcohol recovery center located in Flemington NJ. In our mission statement we make it clear that we will not turn away any client in need even If they canít pay. Therefore this fundraiser is critical to our budget and future clients. 100% of the profit for this run is used for treatment. There have been situations where we have refunded money but we appreciate any donations and even if you canít make the run we greatly appreciate your generosity in not asking for a refund.
  • Is this race really appropriate for my child? Last year we were amazed by the number of families running together. This is definitely a family appropriate run. Strong runners can choose to push themselves along the course and first time or slower runners can take it easy and celebrate just finishing. We have organized this race at Deer Path Park so families can feel comfortable that there is no traffic or road dangers. Staff members are located along the course to assist.
  • How difficult is the course? This is Hunterdon County so expect rolling hills. The inclines are not steep but they can be longÖ However, you can also expect long rolling declines. Cross country running is easier on the feet and knees and the views at deer path park are motivational. This course will offer a proper challenge to the strong runner and feeling of accomplishment to the casual runner.
  • Which role should I choose? Stronger runners will be challenged in either wave. Chasing or being chased. If you need a little motivation to get the best run time then choose wave one and get a boost knowing that other runners are trying to catch you. First time or slower runners that do not enjoy being chased should be in wave two. Donít like running? Then join us a walking.
